Beth Deisher is editor of Coin World newspaper and Steve Roach is associate editor. Together they have addressed the problem of counterfeit coins coming out of China. Recognizing these numismatic forgeries is becoming more difficult as the level of sophistication of the counterfeiters becomes advanced.
In this video with images you will learn about:

* why China has become a center for counterfeiting
* examples of the minting equipment and dies being used

I have a number of chinese Trade Dollars (US) Look good .Do not all weigh right . Some do and some are real good imitations . I have asked for refunds and help from the US Treasury. They could care less. It is counterfiting ,no copy or anything denying it is not real . No one cares
Without any protection from Chinese counterfeiting, I think prices for authenticated coins will rise. Trusted grading companies like PCGS, NGC, ICG, etc. are expected to weed out all the fakes, but the problem with graded coins, especially from PCGS is, the Chinese counterfeiters have started making fake slabs with fake serial numbers. We NEED counterfeiter watchdogs to keep this in check. What’s next, authenticating the slabs too?
i lived in china many years. every flea market i ever went to had fake western coins. fake US $100 bills were easy to get. all it took was rudimentary chinese skills.
So many of us in the US would be doing the same thing if we weren’t afraid to go to jail and get nailed in the keester. China is the big boy on the block. What, is the CIA going to say “Stop doing that.” China is going to laugh at them. So, the show goes on.
Is there someone with an exact list of the coins and denominations we should be on the look out for? I have purchased over 100 coins on ebay. I think I am safe with the purchases but I would like to get a list so I can stay away from the alerted product. I will not be buying coins from ebay until we get some kind of list to go by.
It’s not only coins that are counterfeit to a high degree of competency. Watches are now so good that in the best cases they are indistinguishable from the original even to the point of using the exact movement of the original.
Also,I have recently come across some fake .925 silver Georgian candlesticks, if I had not been offered a dozen sets, I would have thought them genuine, but they were too good, as if they were made yesterday; which they probably were.
