Sales of the 2016 30th anniversary issue of the American Silver Eagle bullion coin are on track for a fourth consecutive record-breaking year, with 4,782,000 ounces (coins) sold in the month of February.

Together with January’s numbers, year-to-date sales total 10,736,000 coins.

Using the United States Mint’s website to search through bullion sales / mintage figures for previous years, February 2016’s Silver Eagle sales represent an increase of 58.24% over the 3,022,000 ounces (coins) sold in February of 2015. 8,552,000 Silver Eagles had been sold by this time last year.

2011+proof_buffaloGold Buffalos and American Eagles saw similar bumps last week.

The 1 oz American Gold Eagle sold 67,500 pieces last month, an increase of 440% from 2015. The 1/2 oz Gold Eagle sold 3,000 ounces (6,000 coins) in February, up 200%. Quarter-ounce Gold Eagles sold 3,000 ounces (12,000 coins). The 1/10 oz bullion coin saw sales of 10,000 ounces (100,000 coins), which is a solid 100% over 2015.

Authorized dealers received 19,000 American Gold Buffalo bullion coins in the month of February 2016, for a total of 53,000 ounces (coins) sold so far this year. 12,000 ounces (coins) were sold last February – an increase of almost 25% (24.75%).

Also last week, the 2016 America the Beautiful Quarter Shawnee National Forest 5 oz silver and uncirculated coins went on sale. The uncirculated version sold 15,263 coins, while the bullion issue has sold 105,000 coins to date – an unusually large mintage for the series.

Additionally, the America the Beautiful Quarters Proof Set, which debuted on February 23, made a strong showing at 38,733 units sold.

Authorized dealers keep ordering ’em, and collectors and investors keep buyin’ ’em, so the Mint’s evergreen Gold and Silver Eagle bullion products are looking to have a wonderfully profitable year.
