On February 16, 2016, the Bank of Russia put into circulation a three-ruble silver coin commemorating the ancient Christian Shoaninsky Temple in the Karachay-Cherkess Republic. It is the latest coin in the Architectural Monuments of Russia series (fine metal content 31.1 g, fineness 925, catalog number 5111-0330 ).

The coin is round in shape with a diameter of 39.0 mm.

On the front and back sides of the coin there is a raised rim.

The obverse features a relief image of the State Emblem of the Russian Federation. Inscriptions include “The Russian Federation”, “BANK OF RUSSIA”, the denomination of the coin – “3 rubles”, and the date – “2016”. The letters “Ag” designate the metal content of the coin according to the periodic table of elements. The obverse also includes the fineness and the trade mark of the Moscow Mint.

The reverse features the relief of Shoana Church in Karachay-Cherkessia. Inscriptions along the rim include: on top – “SHOANINSKY ancient Christian Church of X-XI centuries.”; at the bottom – “Karachay-Cherkess Republic.”

The edge of the coin is corrugated.

The commemorative silver coin comes in Proof quality with a mintage of 3,000 pieces.

The coins are legal tender anywhere within the territory of the Russian Federation and must be accepted at face value in all kinds of payment transactions without restriction.
