Niue 2015 Agnieszka Radwańska $1 Silver Coin

Description:

Agnieszka Radwańska is an internationally-ranked woman’s tennis star and, with her 6-3, 6-4 victory over German tennis star Angelique Kerber in the 2012 Wimbledon semi-finals, is the second Polish tennis player to reach the singles final of a Grand Slam tournament. That performance vaulted her to the World’s #2 Ranking and at the time of this writing she is the #14 ranked woman in the world, according to the Women’s Tennis Association.

To honor her achievements, the Mint of Poland has issued a low-mintage silver commemorative coin. The coin features a high-end digital transfer image of Radwańska and is embellished with a stone insert that resembles a tennis ball. Each coin is housed in a grassy green box and housed in tennis ball-shaped box.

Obverse:

Ian Rank-Broadley’s (View Designer’s Profile)effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, offset slightly to the left. To the right, two tennis rackets. Inlaid, a yellow stone in the shape of a tennis ball. Wrapping around the rim are the following inscriptions: 2015, NIUE ISLAND, ELIZABETH II, AG 999, the MW mark of the Mint of Poland (Warsaw Mint), and 1 DOLLAR. The coin’s field resembles the texture of a tennis court’s surface.

Reverse:

A colorized photograph of Agnieszka Radwańska preparing to backhand a tennis ball. Radwańska is clothed in white athletic wear, her shirt has a double stripe in pink. Radwańska is wearing a pink hat. Additionally, she is wearing two white sweatbands. One on each wrist. To her left, an inlaid yellow stone in the shape of a tennis ball. On the bottom quarter of the design is Radwańska’s signature. Along the rim, alternating at the 11 o’clock and five o’clock position is the inscription AGNIESZKA (top), RADWAŃSKA (bottom). In the background, a swirling abstract design.
