Army Commemorative Coin to be used at Army vs. Tulane game Saturday – Will be used at every Army Home Game

September 27, 2011 – The silver 2011 Army Commemorative Coin will be used during the ceremonial coin toss this Saturday during the Army Black Knights’ football game versus Tulane University at Michie Stadium. The coin will be provided by the Army Historical Foundation which is spearheading the $200 million Capital Campaign to build the National Museum of the United States Army at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. The United States Military Academy at West Point will use the 2011 Army Commemorative silver dollar for the official coin toss at all Army home football games during the 2011 season. By congressional authorization, a portion of the proceeds from the US Mint’s sale of the coins goes toward construction of the Museum. The Army is the oldest and largest of the nation’s service branches, yet it is the only one without a national museum.

Also available for purchase is an Army gold $5 coin and a copper-clad half dollar.   A copper-clad coin, also provided by AHF, will be presented to the Army’s Most Valuable Player at every home game during the 2011 Black Knights’ football season. The coins are available for only a limited time with sales ending in December.
