July is already upon us, and as anticipated, we have an exceptional range of new coin releases to showcase this month.

The 90th anniversary of the creation of Ginger Meggs, Australia’s longest running comic strip, is celebrated. Created by Jimmy Bancks, the comic strip was first introduced in the Sydney Sunday Sun newspaper called Us Fellers on the 13 November 1921. The coin’s coloured reverse depicts Ginger Meggs riding a kangaroo, with his dog, Mike and his pet monkey,Tony. The design references the first Meggs cover of the 1924 Sunbeams Annual.

The high relief Australian Kangaroo coin represents the very best in minting excellence and design. Struck by The Perth Mint from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver in proof quality, the coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.

The second coin release in the 2011 series Famous Battles in Australian History – Tobruk, commemorates those who fought in the lengthy confrontation between Axis and Allied forces in North Africa during the Western Desert Campaign of the Second World War. This beautifully designed tribute is struck from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver.

The seafaring series on pirates for young collectors comes to an end with the fifth and final coin featuring William Kidd. A great gift for any budding coin enthusiast, the release is housed in an illustrated presentation card that joins to make the final pirate scene.

The Perth Mint, in conjunction with Australia Post, is thrilled to present the first coin in the adorable Bush Babies Stamp & Coin Cover series. This release depicts a cuddly koala coin, which is affixed to the envelope and includes an official Australia Post $2.35 stamp.

These and other exciting new products make July another great month of releases from The Perth Mint.
