Arches National Park Quarter Released at Utah Ceremony
On June 6, Deputy Director of the United States Mint Dick Petereson joined Utah Lieutenant Governor Spencer J. Cox in Moab, Utah for the launch ceremony of the Arches National Park quarter. Dave Sakrison, mayor of Moab and master of ceremonies for the event.
400 people attended the ceremony. That number includes 40 children.
$20,000 in quarters was exchanged at the event. The Arches National Park quarter is the third quarter design of 2014 and the 23rd overall in the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program.
The design depicts Delicate Arch, a 65-foot natural arch made of Entrada Sandstone, the Arch was previously commemorated on a 1996 stamp honoring Utah’s Statehood Centenary.
The Arches National Park quarter reverse was designed by Donna Weaver and sculpted by Charles Vickers. The coin retains the adapted John Flanagan obverse that has been in use since the start of the series.
Arches National Park quarters are being produced for circulation, however, those desiring uncirculated examples now can purchase them online directly from the U.S. Mint.
