By Laura Sperber - Legend Numismatics ........
The ANA Coin Show it self has not even started and we are ready to go home! Yeah we are exhausted! Between the show it self and the Heritage Auction, we've been going non stop for four days already. The action has been more than positive!
These guys have done an amazing job of expanding the numismatic marketplace. Legend has a great customer base, but these guys have created a monster "black hole" for coins. Can't say it had much exciting for us, but it did have some very nice what we call "product" pieces. We just got blown out-again! We're sort of starting to feel like "has beens".
Our bids totaled $2,610,056.00. We won only $967,323.00. Again, we were highly aggressive and just got blown out.
Here are some examples of what we bid on and lost:
5584 25C 1879 PCGS MS68 CAC $28,200.00
5633 50C 1802 PCGS AU58 CAC $70,500.00
5721 $1 1859 PCGS PR67 CAC $82,250.00-This was the prettiest one we have ever seen!
5755 $1 1884 PCGS MS67+ CAC $17,037.50-We have a nicer one for MUCH LESS!
5881 $10 1867 PCGS AU58 CAC $30,550.00
5936 $20 1912 PCGS PR67 CAC $211,500.00
4600 $1 1924 PCGS MS67 CAC $11,750.00
4340 $1 1880S PCGS MS68 CAC $6,618.75
Take our word on it, there were many more pieces we were left in the dust on. The prices realized more then prove how incredibly competitive collectors-not dealers-COLLECTORS are to buy NICE coins.
THE BOURSE FLOOR AT PRE ANA COIN SHOW
Activity was seriously ABOVE AVERAGE. For a PNG PRE Show we were highly impressed. We have our stealth team and one staff member out selling. ALL reported incredibly strong sales. In fact one of the first coins to sell, was a beautiful PR Gold coin for $110,000.00. Our #1 "super secret" buyer did his usual piles of coins purchase and we were non stop selling all day Saturday.
Buying is a totally different story. At best we could only buy a widgety coin here or there. Outside of a UNIQUE Pattern (J-1366) we really didn't purchase anything exciting. Even our top "go to "supplier was dead dry. He told us his customers are in buying mode now and are done vetting their collections (ugh oh). A special note: there was NO GEM Bust material what so ever in anyones case. We could not find ANY GEM 20th century stickered gold either-NOTHING, NADA, zippo, ZERO!
THE ANA COIN SHOW
We have are expecting a tremendous show with strong attendance.
If you do come, stop by and see us at tables 323/424. We'd love to see you!
Also, make sure you stop by all the wonderful ANA exhibits (including the Simpson Quintupple Stellas).
