Important collections anchor almost 4,300 lots being offered April 27-29 and May 2
Heritage Auctions, the official auctioneer of the Central States Numismatic Society Show, will present a substantial number of rare and exceptional notes, including perhaps one of the greatest currency discoveries of the last decade in a complete denomination set, $5 through $100, of Serial Number One Red Seal Federal Reserve Notes, as part of its Signature® Currency Auction, April 27-29, in Rosemont, IL.
The Red Seal notes are all in superb condition and break down as follows: Fr. 843a $5 1914 Red Seal Federal Reserve Note PCGS Gem New 65PPQ; Fr. 903a $10 1914 Red Seal Federal Reserve Note PCGS Very Choice New 64PPQ; Fr. 963a $20 1914 Red Seal Federal Reserve Note PCGS Gem New 65PPQ; Fr. 1023a $50 1914 Red Seal Federal Reserve Note PCGS Choice New 63PPQ; Fr. 1083a $100 1914 Red Seal Federal Reserve Note PCGS Very Choice New 64PPQ
More than 4,300 lots will be offered in four floor sessions taking place from the 27th to the 29th, and an online-only session that will take place May 2 in Dallas.
The Auction is anchored by a selection of World Paper Money followed by Colonial, Fractional, Obsolete, and Confederate Currency, all offered in Session One. The session begins Wednesday, April 27 at 6 p.m. CT.
World Paper Money highlights include a grouping of Indian Bank Notes, highlighted by an India – Princely States Hyderabad 1000 Rupees 1929-1930 Pick S267 and both the black and red serial number King George VI notes; India Reserve Bank of India 5 Rupees ND (1943) Pick 23a and an India Reserve Bank of India 5 Rupees ND (1943) Pick 23b Also included are an Israel Anglo-Palestine Bank Limited £50 (1948-51) Pick 18s and a grouping of Republic of Hawaii Proofs.
Highlights from the Colonial and Fractional offerings include a Rhode Island July 2, 1780 Complete Uncut Double Pane Sheet of Sixteen PCGS Choice About New 58PPQ, and three beautiful Fractional Currency Shields. The Obsolete Currency section includes some rarely seen California & Salt Lake Mail Line Notes, including the rarely seen Salt Lake City, UT- California & Salt Lake Mail Line $50. These notes are followed by a colorful Richmond, VA- Virginia Treasury Note $100 Aug. 13, 1861 Cr. 1 Jones VT02-06.
A nice mid-grade T3 $100 1861 PF-2 Cr. 3 and a T58 $20 1863 Inverted Back PF-UNL, one of just two known and the only piece available to collectors, are part of the Confederate Note Offering.
Session Two kicks off at 6 p.m. CT on Thursday April 28 and includes another fabulous offering of National Bank Notes, anchored by the Dustinn (Dusty) Lee Gibson, and the Capital District Collections. The session starts early with a trio of Alaska Nationals, including a Fairbanks, AK – $5 1902 Red Seal Fr. 587 First NB Ch. # (P)7718. The Capital District Collection features examples from most banks in Boston and the surrounding areas, including a beautiful Serial Number One Boston, MA – $2 Original Fr. 389 The Central NB Ch. # 2103. Also featured are a Mount Holly, NJ – $50 1882 Brown Back Fr. 508 The Farmers NB of New Jersey Ch. # 1168, Raleigh, NC – $5 Original Fr. 397 The Raleigh NB of North Carolina Ch. # 1557, and a very scarce Bridgewater, SD – $10 1902 Red Seal Fr. 613 The First NB Ch. # (W)6925. Finally, a wonderful offering of Idaho and Oregon Nationals is being featured from the Dustinn (Dusty) Lee Gibson Collection, including a Paisley, OR – $10 1929 Ty. 1 Paisley NB Ch. # 10432.
Small Size and Error Notes will be offered in Session Three on Friday, April 29 at 1 p.m. CT. Two $5000 Federal Reserve Notes will be offered, including a high grade PMG encapsulated piece, Fr. 2221-B $5000 1934 Light Green Seal Federal Reserve Note. PMG Choice Uncirculated 63. Another high denomination grade rarity is also offered, Fr. 2202-B $500 1934A Federal Reserve Note. PMG Superb Gem Unc 67 EPQ, as well as two fantastic Double Denominations; Fr. 1960-J $5/$10 1934D Federal Reserve Notes, both graded PCGS Gem New 65PPQ.
United States Large Size Notes will be highlighted the evening of April 29, starting at 6 p.m. CT. The session includes more highlights from the Dustinn (Dusty) Lee Gibson Collection. One of America’s most cherished vignettes is offered on a Fr. 167a $100 1863 Legal Tender PMG Very Fine 20 Net, followed by a very rare and one of the finest known, Fr. 360 $5 1890 Treasury Note PMG Very Fine 30.
The more than 2,300 Non-Floor Session lots will also be available for viewing at CSNS Chicago. Session Five will close on Heritage Live on Monday, May 2, beginning at 10 a.m. CT.
