The numismatic world lost a dear friend and colleague when Deborah (Debbie) DeWald Rexing passed away on June 19, 2014. She was just 52 years old.
Rexing, a 1983 graduate of Ohio State University, had served as Heritage Auctions Vice President of Marketing since 2001. While at Heritage, Rexing helped grow the Heritage Auctions brand, designing catalogues, books, and advertising materials. She also worked high profile collectors and collections, including those belonging to John Wayne Enterprises, Basketball icon Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Marvel Comics’ Stan Lee, NASA Astronaut Buzz Aldren, Hugh Heffner and Playboy Enterprises, DC Comics, and the Smithsonian Institution.
Beyond her work, it’s Rexing’s dynamic personality that will be missed most.
"Those fortunate enough to work with or know her, recall her upbeat spirit and genuineness," CoinWeek's David Lisot, who worked with Rexing at Heritage said, "She was a true professional and beloved by many in the industry."
These sentiments were also shared by her colleagues at Heritage. “Debbie was a beloved colleague and friend,” said Noah Fleisher, a spokesperson for Heritage. “The entire Heritage family is grieving.”
Rexing is survived by her parents, her sister, her son, Trent Wesley Rexing and two daughters, Abbey Elizabeth Rexing and Claire Rebecca Rexing. A private ceremony will be held on June 26th at her home. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking friends and colleagues to make a donation to the Susan B. Komen Foundation in her honor.
