Attendees at the Professional Currency Dealers Association sponsored National Coin and Currency Convention, scheduled for November 8-11, 2012 at the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare, located at 5440 North River Road in Rosemont, Illinois, a northwest Chicago suburb one mile from O’Hare Airport, will be able to receive a hotel rebate from the event sponsor, according to Patricia Foley, General Chairman of the convention, now in its 27th year.
Ms. Foley said, “Our organization has been able to successfully sponsor a convention and associated numismatic show and auction for more than a quarter century. We want to give something back to our attendees to let them know how much we appreciate their support over the years. So, this year we’ll be an event that actually pays people to come. Here’s how our offer works. For our public attendees we’ll pay a rebate of $25 per night if they stay at least three nights under our official room block at the Crowne Plaza, up to a total of $75. The stay needs to be actually under our official room block at our $115 rate. After the event all they’ll need to do is print out a copy of their paid room bill at the Crowne Plaza showing that they stayed under our block for at least three nights and paid our full $115 rate. We’ll then send them their rebate check of $75. What’s the catch? Nothing really. If the stay is for at least three nights and is under our room block at our $115 rate, they’ll get back a $75 check from us. Stays outside the block won’t count and the stay needs to be for at least three nights to get the maximum $75 rebate.”
Sergio Sanchez, President of the PCDA, joined with Ms. Foley and added. “Our booth holders know that without their clients who come to our show year after year, we wouldn’t be in our 27th year. This is the Professional Currency Dealers Association’s way of saying ‘thank you’ to the people who’ve helped make our event a success, even in these difficult times.”
Sanchez continued, “Our event will be an all numismatic show. We’ll have coins, currency, United States and foreign material. In addition, Lyn Knight will hold a three session auction, with sessions on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Lyn has been with us for every single one of our past 26 shows. In fact, we’ve now been around for so long that our General Chairman, Patricia Foley, wasn’t even in kindergarten when we started our show. When I told some of my friends what we’ll be doing, they said, ‘Are you all crazy. Do you mean you’ll actually be paying people to stay at the hotel where your show is held? That right. That’s exactly what we’ll be doing. We realize that whatever success our dealers and our show have is because of the people who come to our event. We’ll be saying ‘thank you’ this year by doing more than just saying the words.”
Auction lot viewing will begin on Wednesday, November 7, with the first auction session the following evening. The bourse area, featuring 75 dealers from 22 states, will open on Thursday, November 8 for a Professional Preview/Early Bird Day from 1PM-6PM. There will be a $75 registration fee. The regular public hours will be from 10AM-6PM Friday and Saturday November 9-10 and 10AM-2PM Sunday. There is a $5 registration fee for a three day pass valid Friday through Sunday. General Chairman Patricia Foley added, “For people who stay at our host hotel for three nights and earn the $75 room rebate, it will be like getting into the Professional Preview for free. I know that many of the best deals always happen during the preview, as the dealers bring out those special items they’ve been holding back to unveil at our National Coin and Currency Convention. This will be an added plus, since the Professional Preview registration also includes admission during all the rest of the show.”
To make a reservation at the Crowne Plaza event site, call the hotel at (877) 337-5793 and ask for the $115 “National Coin and Currency Convention” rate. Foley added, “Make certain that your reservation is properly entered under our room block. Stays outside the block won’t qualify, so this is very important. The rebate is not being paid by the hotel. The National Coin and Currency Convention is, so make sure that you get a copy of your paid bill to give us when you check out. We’ll get your rebate back to you within two weeks after the close of our show.”
