In April 2014, the Polish National Bank (Narodowy Bank Polski, or NBP) put into circulation the first upgraded banknotes in denominations of 10, 20, 50 and 100 zlotys, respectively. This was done to improve the security of Polish banknotes and to adapt to current technological requirements for bill accepting machines. The upgraded banknotes account for more than 33 percent of Polish banknotes in circulation.
The release of the 200-zloty (zł) denomination completes this process of banknote modernization of banknotes, as well as finishing the “Lord of the Polish” series in circulation since 1995. The Polish National Bank will unveil the redesigned bill (the highest denomination in Poland) at a presentation starting at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 23 and is scheduled to enter circulation in February 2016.
This will be the first opportunity to photograph and film the modernized note and for the media to familiarize themselves with its new security features, which will be among the most modern in the world.
The presentation will NBP President Prof. Marek Belka, along with representatives of the NBP and the president of the Polish Security Printing Works Marek Siwiec.
NBP will also announce further plans for the modernization of cash transactions.
