Duke’s Creek Collection – Finest Known Dahlonega $5 Gold Video

A collection of many of the finest known $5 gold pieces from the Dahlonega Mint will be coming to market by dealer Jeff Garrett. Mid-American Rare Coin Galleries of Lexington, Kentucky, has been selected to broker the sale.

The Duke’s Creek Collection was carefully assembled over many years by the late Jack Hancock and Bob Harwell, with the choicest pieces from three significant collections of Dahlonega gold. It comprises a complete set of Dahlonega Mint issues, and virtually every coin is the finest known or nearly so.

Mid-American Rare Coin Galleries, in association with Hancock & Harwell, first handled the Duke’s Creek Collection in 2004. At that time, the one dollar through three dollar pieces were sold individually at auction, while the half eagles remained intact and were purchased by a serious collector. This collector has now selected Mid-American Rare Coin Galleries to once again handle the sale of the Duke’s Creek Collection.

Jeff discusses the rarity of the coins in the set and explains how difficult a set of this caliber is to assemble and what he hopes will happen to the collection.
