Another classic bank note rarity has broken the million dollar mark at public auction.

The 1863 gold note series circulated during the Civil War and have been enormously popular with collectors.

This $100 example is one of only three known ot his signature variety, two of which are impounded in the Smithsonian Institution.

It grades PCGS Apparent EF40.

The Central States Numismatic Society, founded in 1939, is one of the larger numismatic organizations in the United States with membership fluctuating around 2,000. CSNS, as it is known informally, operates in a 13 state Midwestern region but membership is open to residents of all states and foreign countries.
