Argyle Pink Diamond Adorns Kimberley Sunset Gold Coin

The Perth Mint has showcased the breathtaking Kimberley sunset on a limited-edition pink gold coin featuring a dazzling Argyle pink diamond.

Struck from 22-carat 91.67% pink gold in proof quality, this precious metal collectable contains 2oz of pure gold and is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965. Each coin incorporates a superbly hand set Argyle pink diamond of between 0.035 and 0.040 carats.

The stunning wilderness of the Kimberley, located in the far north of Western Australia, is famous for its spectacular sunsets which ignite the evening sky with vivid pink, orange, red, purple and blue hues.

The image of the ancient boab tree lit up by the setting sun is synonymous with the region’s landscape; and with Argyle pink diamonds formed more than a billion years ago beneath these majestic trees, these two elements formed the creative inspiration behind the exceptional artistry of this release.

perth_pink_gold“As one of Australia’s most incredible natural treasures, the Kimberley attracts visitors from every corner of the globe and we’re delighted to showcase this magical area on a Perth Mint coin,” said Perth Mint Sales and Marketing Director, Ron Currie.

“This luxurious item, complete with one of the rarest diamonds in the world, is sure to attract substantial interest from investors, collectors and diamond experts alike,” he continued.

The reverse of the coin portrays a boab tree amid a Kimberley landscape at sunset. An Argyle pink diamond embedded near the horizon represents the setting sun. The design also includes the inscription KIMBERLEY SUNSET, the 2015 year-date, and The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.

The coin’s obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination.

“The Kimberley Sunset Coin sets a new benchmark in limited edition craftsmanship. The combination of a specially minted coin featuring a rare Argyle pink diamond makes for a timeless and beautiful collectable,” said Josephine Johnson, Manager Argyle Pink Diamonds.

Priced at $8,880.00, The Perth Mint will release no more than 500 of the 2015 Kimberley Sunset 2oz Pink Gold Proof High Relief Coin in individual designer packaging, accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
