Description:
To commemorate Queen Elizabeth II’s historic reign, the Royal Canadian Mint minted a $200 gold coin struck on 1 ounce of .9999 gold. The coin recognizes the impact of the reigns of Queen Elizabeth II and Queen Victoria (the two reigns of the two regents spanned 96 of Canada’s 148 years). The Historic Reign gold coin was issued in September of 2015 and only 300 pieces were struck.
Obverse:
Susanna Blunt’s effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. The queen faces to the left, as is the tradition. The inscription reads ELIZABETH II D ∙ G ∙ REGINA.
Reverse:
The cyphers of Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II superimposed over the Canadian maple leaf. The cypher for Queen Elizabeth II is on the left; Queen Victoria’s cypher is on the right. St. Edward’s crown surmounts the design. The designer’s initials “CBS” are located to the right of Queen Victoria’s maple leaf. At the bottom of the left leaf is the bilingual inscription: FINE GOLD OR PUR 1 OZ. At the bottom of the right leaf is the denomination 200 DOLLARS. In the exergue is the date and legend 2015, CANADA.
