Description:
The Royal Canadian Mint’s 2016 Universe $20 Silver Coin marries color coin technology with an industry first application of handcrafted borosilicate colored glass. The glow-in-the-dark globule-shaped glass is crafted to resemble a spiral galaxy – making this a stunning representation of the night sky’s celestial beauty.
Obverse: Susanna Blunt’s effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. The queen faces to the left, as is the tradition. The inscription reads: ELIZABETH II D ∙ G ∙ REGINA.
Reverse: The Observatoire du Mont-Mégantic nestled in a forested scene. The sky depicted in full color, stars form glittering constellations in the night’s sky. Above the observatory at the 11 o’clock position a handcrafted borosilicate colored glass is applied to the coin. Each specimen will feature a unique design. Designer Loïc Beaumont-Tremblay’s initials LBT sits on the left near the rim above the tree line. Wrapping around the outer perimeter at the bottom of the coin is the inscription: CANADA, 20 DOLLARS, and 2016. The coin was struck and issued for sale in 2015.
