Niue 2015 In Victoria $1 Silver Coin

Description:

The Mint of Poland has struck a silver $1 coin for the island nation of Niue to commemorate Victory. This limited mintage coin is struck on .999 silver planchets and features selective gilding on the coin’s reverse.

Obverse: Ian Rank-Broadley’s effigy of Queen Elizabeth II is fixed slightly above center. Beneath, two ancient warriors are locked in mortal battle, shields and spears in hand. Surrounding these motifs is an ornamental circle featuring a Greek key design. The circle is bordered on the inside with stylized waves. The MW mark of the Mint of Poland is located behind the Queen’s neck. Ian Rank-Broadley’s initials IRB is located below the neck truncation. Wrapping around the rim of the coin is the following inscription ELIZABETH II, NIUE, ONE DOLLAR, 2015. The coin’s fineness of AG999 is noted behind the warrior on the left.

Reverse: A hero raises his sword to the heavens. In his left hand is a shield, embellished with a gilded laurel wreath. To mythical creatures surround the hero, their heads bowed down. To the left is a Pegasus. To the right is a Griffin. Wrapping around the rim at the top of the coin is the gilded inscription IN VICTORIA, which is Latin for “In Victory”.
